Ashby museum has an archive of over 3000 photographs – both original and copies. This page allows people to view the main group of photographs, but does not include photographs in specialist collections as these often include ones that are not in our primary area of interest. Larger images may be viewed at the museum during opening hours, and copies for private use may be purchased.

"Orange Box Hall" - was at top of Smisby Road to left of old
railway bridge - McVities Snack Factory area. Stone family, Arthur and Mary,
shown with their 10 children in 1896 One further child arrived after 1896!!

Bridge on outskirts of the town being upgraded. Old brick arched
bridge in process of demolition (carried a narrow gauge
railtrack) with the steel tank ready to be positioned to convert
it to a full width railway. Bridge was demolished in the late
1950's after closure of the branch line
Worthington-Breedon-Derby in 1955.

Looking outbound from Ashby town centre. Note again the high
level footpath on left with fields at this time. Edwardian
terraced houses on right. In distance is a bridge over road and
horse and cart delivering. Bridge was demolished in the late
1950's after closure of the branch line
Worthington-Breedon-Derby in 1955. Houses on the right, Ashby
side of bridge were the first council houses built in the town
in 1921 - called North Town. ?Reason for damage to road at
right foregound. It may be residual from the 1910 flood.

- ? going to early morning shift at McVities snack factory at
Windy Ridge. Note high level footpath on left which is still in
situ today.

Most of the houses are Edwardian , but No. 42 and 40, shown were
obviously added at a later date, probably around 1915 approx.
Houses either side were built 1905-1908. Persons shown are
unknown.
