Cricket ground on the Bath Grounds viewed from the railway
embankement. County match, Leicestershire versus Lancashire.
Date unknown but must be pre 1964. Cars just visible in left
distance look 1930's. Earliest cricket match involving Ashby is
in the Leicester Chronicle of September 1831 when a visiting
team from Barwell won by 6 wickets! Early games were played in
a field near the Cottage hospital. By 1880, the Ashby Hastings
CC were installed on the Bath Grounds. In 1911 an offer to
stage a county match there was accepted. County games continued
until 1964.

until 1964. Tennis courts laid out on middle right. Water
tower at top of Kilwardby Street can be seen left distance and
right distance is Holy Trinity church tower.

Ivanhoe Baths. 4th from left lady is mother of Mavis Parry -
Mrs. Clamp (wearing dark hat with white ribbon), her older
brother is the young baby lying in the pram (deceased in 1981),
Was well known locally as Chumpie Clamp and was a paratrooper in
World War II.
