Ashby museum has an archive of over 3000 photographs – both original and copies. This page allows people to view the main group of photographs, but does not include photographs in specialist collections as these often include ones that are not in our primary area of interest. Larger images may be viewed at the museum during opening hours, and copies for private use may be purchased.

This is almost opposite previous photo P10-0825, where the
Callis ends and Smisby Road begins. Large semi on left was
owned and lived in by the Smedleys. Joan and Lena lived on left
hand side. Muriel, their cousin, was a music teacher, lived on
the right, All were spinsters.

1950 - 1959
Rag and Bone man on the Callis, outbound from town centre. Two
conflicting identifications - either "Rocket" Ratcliffe with
Freddie Grew's horse or "Butt" Tames - who lived at Annswell -
with his own horse. The Grew family lived in one of these
cottages which were demolished in early 1960's.

Three men (one is probably William Smedley, owner of the field)
surveying what looks like some damage at the entrance to his
field. The Meredith and Drew biscuit factory was subsequently
built on this land in 1928.

was landlady 1881 to 1887. Her name also on the land to rear of
pub. To left, land owned by Mr. Robert Dickinson (is this the
Dickinson of the corn merchants who had shop on the Callis?)
