Ashby museum has an archive of over 3000 photographs – both original and copies. This page allows people to view the main group of photographs, but does not include photographs in specialist collections as these often include ones that are not in our primary area of interest. Larger images may be viewed at the museum during opening hours, and copies for private use may be purchased.

Circle garage, owned by John Skinner. Left side of area was a
garage for many years. Right side was site of old picture
house, built in 1920's, closed 31.12.1963. Showroom (on left in
middle photo) was built into fabric of old cinema building.
Lower photo - site just after demolition. Site redeveloped into
Fine Fare supermarket (later Gateway and now Somerfield).

1950 - 1959
The Derby Road Picture House in probably the 1950's. Interior and exterior and some tickets. Opened in 1926 and closed in 1963. Became part of Circle Garage owned by John Skinner. Site then developed into a supermarket (currently Co-op)

Street. Good view of its heyday in photo P09-0576. Demolished
in 1960's. Lived in at one time by a Mr. Ellison who was an
upholsterer. Area behind was the tan yard.
