Ashby museum has an archive of over 3000 photographs – both original and copies. This page allows people to view the main group of photographs, but does not include photographs in specialist collections as these often include ones that are not in our primary area of interest. Larger images may be viewed at the museum during opening hours, and copies for private use may be purchased.

North Street Infants School. Children in fancy dress outside in
playground, at what is now entrance of library and TIC. -
possibly a coronation celebration or carnival. Buildings in
background - extreme left row of terraced cottages, opposite
museum, were demolished circa 1950. Now car parks for
businesses/surgery. Property on end is now Ashby Day Nursery.
At time of photo was lived in by the Randall family.

1952 - 1954
Moore's Transport lorry (Morris Commercial) in North Street,
outside the museum section of what was then North Street
Infant's School (now library and museum). Used to operate from
opposite side of road on site which is now the Ashby Social
Club/VIP Rooms. Was Moores Haulage until April 1951, then
nationalisation, became Moores Transport. Moved to Nottingham
Road in mid to late 1940's. Driver is Jeff Mason who went on to
run own transport business. Still today his daughter and
son-in-law run the business - Mason's. Behind openback trailer,
the "Old Cottage" is visible. It was minus its upper floor in
1960's and fully demolished as unsafe by mid 1960's.
