Images

Ashby museum has an archive of over 3000 photographs – both original and copies. This page allows people to view the main group of photographs, but does not include photographs in specialist collections as these often include ones that are not in our primary area of interest. Larger images may be viewed at the museum during opening hours, and copies for private use may be purchased.

This page also allows access to details of artefacts (physical objects) held by the museum. Please note that when changing between photographs and artefacts, the classification list is only updated after the first search.

Sansom's corner. Was the site of No.2 Sansom (hardware dealer), demolished in 1930-1935. Area remained undeveloped for many years (see previous photo). This photo taken after advertising hoarding was removed (note TV aerials, and end building to the left has been demolished). Area redeveloped in early 1960's.

Looking from Kilwardby Street towards Bath Street on right. Sansom's corner. Was the site of No.2 Sansom (hardware dealer), demolished in 1930-1935. Area remained undeveloped for many years before this advertising hoarding was erected.

In distance, to right of Shoulder of Mutton was No.3 Miss Elizabeth Trussell (shopkeeper) - possibly a food outlet, see "Hovis" sign above. Became a wool shop in 1930's and later was incoporated into the Should of Mutton (public house).

Corner of Station Rd coming into Bath St. Holdrons (ironmongers). Large collection of plough shares in yard. Site later intended for cinema which was not completed due to outbreak of WWII. Site then occupied by Eric Bailey (car sales) and laterly redeveloped into Castlegate House (shops and residential)
